"Where are our government officials in all of this? The more I hear that mold is HARMLESS the angrier I get. It is misinformation like that that cost my baby her life and you know what? I am not alone."
Written testimony that was presented to every member of the US House of Representatives in September 2004.
TOXIC MOLD -- PROTECT YOURSELF WITH KNOWLEDGE
FDRC: A NONPROFIT PUBLIC HEALTH ACTION GROUP SUPPORTING MOLD RELATED ILLNESSES AND EDUCATION.
Life threatening illnesses related to toxic mold poisonings are now a public health epidemic.
• Federal health regulators have documented severe immune and neurological system damage from toxins produced by mold commonly found in our homes;
• Insurance industry data indicates that tens of thousands of Americans report personal bankruptcies and homelessness in nearly 50% of insurance claims concerning household fungal infestations;
• National experts have testified before Congress that 40 million Americans are at risk for illnesses from mold, owing to genetics, construction design faults, and modern building materials that are subject to mold growth.
Exposure to toxic molds in buildings can result in permanent illness or death from immune system damage and infection. Those unfortunate enough to be affected not only endure disabling illness, but the contaminated environment is often the subject's home. Whether owned or rented, “home" is the actual cause of debilitating disease, rendering the one place where a person is to be able to recover from illness uninhabitable. Horribly, small children -- with developing bodies and immune systems -- are some of the most affected, with infant deaths from mold exposures being recorded by the Centers for Disease Control and medical professionals.
Victims must often dispose of all physical items that have been contaminated -- houses, automobiles, clothes, and even photographs. The end result is a disease of environmental cause that brings permanent illness, loss of home, possessions, and the ability to work.
Federal legislation in the form of a Bill (HR1269) has been proposed that recognizes this developing and ongoing tragedy, and to provide assistance for victims. However, various commercial interests have aligned to oppose the Bill, with the intent of dodging legal liabilities and discrediting the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
The FDRC’s not-for-profit mission is to address the needs of victims of toxic mold by providing direct financial assistance for emergency shelter, clothing, appropriate medical care and medicine for victims who have been displaced and disabled from illness. FDRC also seeks to provide current, objective informational materials and medical reserch data to the public, legislators and the media.
Please take some time to explore the additional information provided on this site, and make a commitment to support the mission of the FDRC in helping victims of this national epidemic. Through your financial contribution you can help end this preventable tragedy.
