Victims Testimonies The ranks of those who have been affected by illness due to exposure to molds are large, and unfortunately, growing every day. Persons from all walks of life are being affected -- rich, poor, the old, and the very young. And despite the other priveleges that are provided to those of their positions, Celebrities have been affected as well, and many have spoken out on the issue. Populist hero Erin Brockovitch, Jennifer Aniston, Ed McMahon, Lou Ferrigno, Ted Nugent, Aaron Spelling and Alana Stewart are among the names that have become associated recently with media coverage of their experiences with toxic mold. Perhaps the most articulate and influential voice is that of Bianca Jagger, world renowned social activist, and ex-wife of Mick Jagger. Bianca's story is different from that of legions of other mold victims only in regard to her address -- a luxury apartment on Park Avenue in New York City. Her landlord did not fix a leak despite numerous complaints, massive mold growth ensued, and Bianca became deathly ill. Now, almost three years after abandoning her home and posessions, she -- like most other mold victims -- remains ill. Despite this, Bianca continues her mission, which now includes fighting for mold victims rights. As chair of the press conference introducing HR1269 in Washington DC in September of 2004, she spoke elequently and passionately on the issue, and vowed to never give up her support for victims of mold. However, many of these voices have become silenced. Where average mold victims are endlessly delayed in their claims of injury -- the average settlement period being a staggering 1700+ days, vs. the industry median of five days for fire damages -- celebrites and others of potential high profiles claims are settled with strict nondisclosure terms, effectively gagging some of the most influential voices that could bring this national tragedy to light. Instead of being able to fight for victims, the most visible of this unfortunate community can only sit and watch the Diaspora of others who have suffered the same fate. The following testimonies have been selected from hundreds provided to FDRC associates. While these stories are of special note due to the circumstances of the authors, they tell the tragedy of mold victims everywhere.
